Intelligent Safety Systems
While the XJ features a supplemental airbag system monitored by the sophisticated Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S.), its protection is dependent on one simple consideration: the proper and ever-present use of the primary restraint system, the 3-point pyrotechnically activated safety belts located at each seating position.

A.R.T.S.
A.R.T.S. is technology that adapts the deployment of the front airbag restraints based on a number of variables to ensure optimum performance. By detecting such variables as the presence, position and weight of the front passenger, the position of the driver in relation to the steering wheel, and seatbelt use, A.R.T.S. can determine which safety systems to activate and, when applicable, the airbag energy levels most appropriate.

Supplemental Airbags
A Jaguar´s Supplemental Restraint System includes dual-stage driver and front passenger chest airbags, side airbags for driver and front passenger, and side curtain airbags for outboard seating positions. A.R.T.S. constantly monitors safety belt usage and considers this information for airbag deployment.

Dynamic Stability Control
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) helps stabilize the car when cornering, automatically intervening to prevent skids by reducing power from the engine and applying the brakes to individual wheels as appropriate.

Anti-Lock Brakes
The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) work to ensure optimum braking in panic stops. The ABS helps to prevent lock-up and thus preserve steering control while the Emergency Brake Assist works with the ABS to ensure that maximum braking force is delivered when intended.

Hallmark of Quality
Jaguar engineers refer to quality, reliability and durability as simply "QRD." The words may be abbreviated—but in the XJ, the process of achieving the highest levels of each is not. The latest XJ endured the most intensive development program ever undertaken by Jaguar.

Pascar "Whole Life" Testing
A Passenger Car, or Pascar, whole-life test is another test that simulates 150,000 miles of real world use and abuse. After each phase, the XJ is inspected and any trim, body, and fitting faults are examined, and all squeaks and rattles that develop are remedied.  The XJ was subjected to two Pascar tests in succession, simulating a total of 300,000 miles of real-world use.
