Innovations in Safety
The S-TYPE boasts advanced safety engineering including an array of sophisticated systems, from the industry-first Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S.), to ABS and Dynamic Stability Control; but the systems are dependent on one very simple consideration: the proper and ever-present use by the car´s driver and passengers of the primary restraint system, the 3-point safety belts.
A.R.T.S.
Among the S-TYPE´s engineering accomplishments, no aim supercedes that of safety. In less than one second, A.R.T.S. analyzes the severity of a crash and deploys safety systems for optimum protection. Using sensors to monitor front passenger weight and seating position of the front occupants, in harmony with crash severity sensors, A.R.T.S. ensures airbags and safety belt pretensioners are deployed safely and appropriately, minimizing the risk of airbag-related injuries.
The S-TYPE´s Supplemental Restraint System includes dual-stage driver and front passenger chest airbags and seat-mounted side airbags, each monitored by A.R.T.S. for tailored protection. Side curtain airbags also help protect passengers in certain side impacts.
Anti-lock Braking System
The S-TYPE´s Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) provide state-of-the-art braking power and control. ABS helps maintain steering control, under hard braking or adverse weather conditions, to maneuver around an obstacle. Without ABS, hard braking can cause the wheels to lock up and the vehicle to skid out of control.
Emergency Brake Assist
Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) measures the force with which you press the brake pedal to determine if emergency braking has occurred, and increases braking power to ensure the ABS has been activated.
Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) helps stabilize the car when cornering, automatically intervening to prevent skids by reducing power from the engine and applying the brakes to individual wheels as appropriate.**
